To know me is to know that I adore the heck out of Wilco, and I think I came to them relatively “late” which is, like, so totally uncool.

I purchased Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and listened the hell out of that album until I, no joke, had to buy another copy because the CD was so scratched. Wilco became my substitute Tori Amos/Fiona Apple(which is weird, this I know) when I felt angsty and teenage-like (despite my age, which made me decidedly NOT teenage). But it wasn’t until I moved in with TF that my like of Wilco turned into a full-on obsession. I have very distinct memories of moving into our 2nd apartment (don’t ask) to the melodies of Wilco. I also have some not-so-warm-and-fuzzy memories of driving from DC to Richmond (again, don’t ask) crying to my homemade Wilco mix CD. But those dudes were there for me, and I appreciated it. And, as Obama supporters, Wilco grew to gain even more of my respect.

Three concerts and many, many album listens later we fast-forward to, um, now. “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart: A Film About Wilco” is now available for download on iTunes and to celebrate, Mollytics is giving away two free downloads (via iTunes – US version – this is important) of the film!

Sweet hook-up, no?

Here’s a little more about the film, via NewVideo.com:

In the fall of 2000, Wilco entered the studio to record their highly anticipated fourth album. Building on three critically acclaimed albums anda reputation for phenomenal live shows, the band seemed posed to cement its reputation as one of the great American rock groups. So how is it that one year later, with completed record in hand, the band found itself rejected by its corporate record label and missing two of its original members? First-time filmmaker and award-winning photographer Sam Jones was on-hand, chronicling this turbulent chapter in Wilco’s history as it unfolded.

It’s basically a must-have for any Wilco fan. So how can you enter to win?

  1. Leave a comment below, telling me your top three favorite Wilco songs, and why, anytime before Sunday, September 28 at 5 p.m. EST
  2. Make sure your comment has your name.
  3. Then, using the brilliance of random.org (thanks metrocurean), I’ll pick two lucky winners and announce them Monday morning on my blog (so be sure to check back)!
  4. When I announce the winners, if you email me (mollytics [at] gmail [dot] com) I’ll hook you up with your download.

Viola! Easy peasy.

I’ll update this post a little later with my favorites and why (it’s taking me forever to pick just three, and I need to just post this already!), so be sure to check back, and leave a comment so I you can win one of two free downloads!

P.S. Also – how attractive is Jeff Tweedy? I mean, seriously.
