Yurts

It seems, my Internet friends, that you know me all too well. No less than 15 of you – 8 of which I do not know IRL – sent me a link to A Cup of Jo’s post “Travel fantasy: Yurts:”

My twin sister and her husband took a weekend getaway to Big Sur and stayed in a yurt! They said it was one of their coolest vacations. How invigorating to spend the day hiking and swimming, and in the evening, you can drink wine on your deck, breathe the salty air, and watch the sunset. Yurts also seem like a great baby step for those of us who aren’t big campers: You get to be in nature and sleep in a bed. Good for wusses!

Have you ever stayed in a yurt? Would you want to? Big Sur looks incredible.

Well done, Internets! Well done.

Sorry Joanna, but I was diggin’ on yurts back in November of 2010… a odd little choice for a narrative device as seen here, here, here, here, here, and – in a move that warmed the cockles of my heart – here:

Still, I totally agree with her (Joanna)… a yurt-vacation is near the top of my travel-fantasy list. And a yurt in Big Sur – even better. There is, quite possibly, nothing better. Wine + sea air + yurt = new life goal. Is 2012 the year that I will make it happen?

Vacation Hint: Numero Dos

Yesterday’s hint can be found here.

In exactly one week, I will be on a plane headed to…

Hint #2:

In an effort to be thrifty now so I can splurge later, I will do the following things:

  1. Pack only a carry-on. (Like this lady always does… no matter where she flies or for how long the visit, she only takes a carry-on. Impressive.)
  2. Not buy new clothes. This will be hard, but let’s face it – I will have plenty of what I need and, at the risk of giving my future destination away, I can wear the same thing everyday if need be. I won’t, but I could.
  3. Not eat out or buy groceries until I return from vacation. Again – this will be hard for me, but a good excuse to use what remains in my fridge, pantry, and freezer.
  4. Not drink alcohol until I leave… (Wherein I will down a mimosa or bloody mary (or both!) soon upon boarding the plane. Vacation starts RIGHT THEN, after all.)

Spur-of-the-Moment Vacation

I just booked a spur-of-the-moment vacation for a week from tomorrow. A WEEK FROM TOMORROW. This makes me feel wild and free, and frankly… I need that. We all need a little of that, don’t we?

I should note that it was exceptionally hard. In fact, it was absurdly hard. And, exceptionally easier to book internationally than domestically. Now does that make any sense to anyone? Nope? Good. Then we’re all on the same page.

Where am I going? I’m not telling.

But! I’ll give you a hint-a-day until I go.

Here’s today’s hint:

You think you know… but you have no idea.
